Dog Safe Human Treats

Visualize those eyes staring at you, making you uncomfortable, and sucking all the joy out of your hands when you don’t share your human food with the little monster. Easy, right =) Dogs can be very convincing that we should share whatever we eat with them. Whatever we eat! But be aware: Since their digestive system is different from ours, not all of our foods will sit well with their stomachs. Here is a list of a few dog-safe human foods that we can enjoy together with our pets.

-Peanut Butter
Is the most common and healthy dog treats we have available in our kitchens. Raw unsalted peanut butter is a great source of protein, Vitamin B, Vitamin E, Niacin, and healthy fats. Be sure not to use fat-free or lite peanut butter since they have artificial sweeteners and xylitol which are toxic for dogs.

-Cooked Chicken
Unsalted or spiced cooked chicken will be the king of treats for your dog. It can also be added on top of their food to add flavoring or can be fed in a bowl and will make a great once in while substituting for their food especially if you run out of dog food.

-Cheese
Mozzarella, cottage, and goat cheeses are good low sodium and low-fat options to share with your dogs. Cottage cheese is also a low lactose option. Be sure to give a moderate amount from time to time because calories in the cheese can be problematic for your dog.

-Popcorn
Popcorn is a great snack to share with your pet. Be sure to give them unsalted and unbuttered popcorn.

-Pumpkin
Pumpkins are a great source of fiber, Vitamin A, and carotene and aid your dog’s digestive system.

-Baby Carrots
Baby carrots are great for your mutt’s teeth and packed with fiber, carotene, and Vitamin A.

-Green Beans
Beans are great snacks raw or steamed. Be sure to give your pet unsalted green beans.

-Yogurt
Plain yogurt is packed with calcium and protein. It is also a great source of probiotics which is great for your dog’s digestive system.

-Frozen Fruit Yogurt Popsicle
On a hot summer day, there is nothing better than a frozen fruit yogurt pops for you and your mutt. Dogs can’t digest well all the fruits and vegetables but you can get creative with bananas, blueberries, cantaloupes, watermelons, cucumbers, peaches, and mangoes. Be sure to use plain yogurt without any flavoring or sweeteners.

These treats are safe for dogs to enjoy and sit well with their stomachs. However, some dogs may be sensitive to some of the treats listed above. Just make sure that you don’t feed them a lot with human food.
